We are pleased to announce that Royal Golf La Bagnaia has been awarded the INV (Impegnati Nel Verde) environmental recognition assigned by the Italian Golf Federation whose main goal is to stimulate ever greater attention to environmental problems within the national golf industry.

Following inspections, the Federation has decided to award us with the INV environmental recognition for the following categories:

  • Historical, artistic, and cultural heritage

We would like to thank the Federation for these recognitions. But an even greater thanks goes to everyone involved at Bagnaia who got us there.

2024 Coring

Essential maintenance work will be carried out on our greens on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th April and on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th August.
This is coring, an important course maintenance practice that involves extracting small amounts of soil from the greens to prevent the soil from becoming compacted. The spaces are then filled with ‘topdressing’ sand, which helps the soil retain air space and facilitates downward root growth. This practice allows the grass to oxygenate and create new roots to grow stronger and more luxuriant.

Coring is carried out in order to:
– allow a correct exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the soil and the surrounding environment;
– decompact the soil avoiding the excessive formation of organic matter;
– allow the correct development of the roots of the stems;
– favor the deep penetration of water, avoiding surface stagnation;
– favor fertilization operations, thus ensuring the constant supply of nutrients;
– ensure optimal preparation for new grass seeds.

This type of maintenance is necessary to offer players a course that is always in the best playing conditions.

During this delicate phase of recovery it is even more important to observe the rules of label and therefore the repair of the pitchmark becomes fundamental to allow the green to recover as soon as possible.

Our golf course maintenance team try to keep disruption to a minimum; however, we would like to notify you of this necessary work in advance prior to booking your tee times. Only 9 holes are available to play on these days and green fee will be reduced accordingly.

AID Golf Tour 2023

The AID (Italian Disabled Association) Golf Tour 2023 competition was played in Bagnaia on the 3rd and 4th June.

We saw the best Italian players on the course competing for the podium with remarkable results, despite the fact that the weather was not the best.

On the first day the race was interrupted by a sudden storm which then arrived until the evening, not allowing some teams to finish the last holes, which finished the day after.

We were delighted to host the event and to be able to witness top-level golf.

A heartfelt thanks to the Association and we hope to see you all soon in Bagnaia!

Golf Sustainable praises Bagnaia for the environmental sustainability of the golf course

We are pleased to share with you an article written by Petra Himmel, journalist and Founder of Golf Sustainable, who visited Bagnaia at the beginning of December. Very impressed by the quality of our course however more interested in our water conservation methods and distribution of irrigation throughout the year. She wrote:

“The water becomes more expensive, and it becomes less. The energy to run the pumps is becoming increasingly expensive, and climate experts agree that heat waves and droughts like those in Italy over the past two years will be more frequent in the future. The circumstances for operating a golf course are changing”.

Petra then continues speaking of Bagnaia:

“At Royal Golf La Bagnaia near Siena, it’s early December as we talk to General Manager Martin Shaw about water management and grass. The view from the clubhouse is of Robert Trent Jones Jr’s excellent 18-hole course, which opened in 2011 and was laid out with Bermuda grass from the start. Between the holes, you can see the five lush lakes where the rainwater is collected in winter. (…) An on-site spring is available for emergencies, and the head greenkeeper keeps water consumption low anyway, thanks to constant moisture measurements. Irrigation is adjusted daily, and the course has coped recognizably well with heat and drought.”
